I don't mind characters that I don't like or who aren't sympathetic. What I can't stand are characters who are just pathetic. Who can't decide what to do or always do the wrong thing or can't see the obvious when it is right in front of their faces. Don't give me the damsel-in-distress. Give me the damsel-in-distress-with-a-dagger-under-her-dress-who-isn't-afraid-to -use-it-on-the-bad-guy!! Unrealistic? Perhaps. But I read for escapism. I can see enough of that in my own life, I don't need to read about it too. Not that I want every protagonist to be perfect. And it is great to see a protagonist advance through a book/series to be non-pathetic. - jmh _______________________________________________ http://www.mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l
