I missed all the Al-Sahaf jokes/humour. Well, there *was* this lovely
website I saw once: 'Al-Sahaf down the ages'. He was commenting on the
Norman invasion, the Crusades, the American War of Independence, French
revolution, Normandy landing and a number of other key events. :)

I never missed a single Al-Sahaf press conference. I enjoyed him too
much. :)

I recently came across an interview of his wherein he explains his
delightful phraseology during the war:

"I had to come up with something unique that would attract people's
attention, particularly because we were targeted by 56 hostile radio
stations. People were flooded with propaganda from the other side. Even
Iraqi cabinet members (such as Mulla Huwaidh) were exposed to
psychological warfare. Some of them even received telephone calls from
the United States, from Atlanta, Georgia. The caller, Americans speaking
weak Arabic, would threaten and curse them. I had to come up with
something remarkable to combat that propaganda war."

I would say that his strategy was successful, at least to the extent of
ensuring his visibility. :)
He said something quite amusing in the same interview:

"Southern resistance was a big sigh of relief. Iraqis in the South met
the invaders with resistance, not with flowers as their propaganda
machines lied to people."

For some reason, I am tickled by the notion of Saddam, Al Sahaf et al
watching the news with bated breath, wondering how the Iraqi people
would react. I wonder if any of them thought about *why* they had
reached a state where they weren't even sure of how their own people
would react to an invasion.

I don't know any. :(
