If his religion demands he stands against people who would have him dig a mass grave he was about to be buried in, he's following *his* precepts. He's not claiming to be smarter and more rational than everyone else. He's not claiming that information is his only weapon, instead of, oh, let's say oppression by the state to choose an example.
What use is the state if it can't eradicate evil, like, oh religion say?
