All I can say is that I've tried to read King at least a dozen times, and each time I've gotten bored and put the book aside. I have never finished one.
I think a big problem I have with King is the writing style; perhaps if the writing style was better, or I was a fan of the genre, I might like them better. But as someone approaching the books from the "outside" they really fall flat for me...
