They do it because they want to have sex. They do it because the normal social inhibitions are not functional because they see themselves as unable to gain what they want through normal social channels. Where is the evidence that rapists disconnect from what they do? They use power to get sex; they don't use sex to get power because after the rape they leave the woman.
