Well, Federal Unemployment benefits give you at least a couple of months,
and if you are willing to relocate, the greater DC-Baltimore Metro area
currently has an unemployment rate of >3%.    

Ultimately it is worth noting that since the tech bubble was centered in
the Bay Area, naturally the Bay Area is going to suffer a lot of job
losses.   There were a lot of people employed on some pretty irrational
business ventures - like selling pet food over the Internet during the
bubble years, and those jobs are never going back. 

What we are seeing right now is the economy going through the sometimes
painful process of redistributing and reallocating its labor force.
