In fact, early Christians thought it would not matter. That the End of Days was at hand. It took more than a century for them to stop periodically selling or burning or giving away all possessions and standing on hilltops expecting the sky to open. As for Jesus's policies on temporal matters, they were simple. Giver everything you have to the poor, right now. Period. This is absolutely undeniable. The right has to deal with that fact. It is why they had to search and search to find SOME issue that would let them seize the moral high ground. Abortion fit that need perfectly. It's utterly cheap... simply ban a medical procedure and throw poor women in jail. No need to take responsibility for the resulting children. (Welfare is eeeevil.) ANd you can say, "we're saving babies. So Jesus would be on our side, even though he'd disagree with EVERY other policy we stand for." > > >That hurts though! It's the whole reason the right > >has gone hog wild over abortion. They could not > care > >less about poor kids who do get born, > > This is an interesting statement from someone who > just posted at length > about the inherent wrongness of demonizing one's > opponents to make one feel > good. I never denied being human. My radicalism-plus-contempt is ORIGINAL though. I don't enslave myself to an insanely insipid and disproved political "axis" that is utterly without meaning or utility. My radicalism is radical pragmatism -- much more american than French style ideology that you adhere-to. I despise the hate-filled simplism that creates no-compromise party lines. Those on the "right" who would deny the fantastic things done by states. Or those on the left who would have us amputate the hand of enterprise that generates all the wealth that a generous state needs in order to do more good. Especially the utter hypocrisy. Like hounding Bill Clinton for fibbing over a glancing bit of consensual sex that was only his wife's business, while glossing over the blatant fact that W and his crowd of kleptos have never, ever, told the truth about anything, ever, at any time or at any level. And that's about public policy. This statement conveniently ignores the > yeomen efforts made by > pro-lifers to provide pre-nantal and post-natal care > to distressed pregnant > women - What utter garbage. ABortion started going DOWN under Clinton and sex education was a major factor. Minimizing this unpleasant, unhealthy and disgusting last-resort procedure has always been the goal of moderates. Not lying about "partial birth" abortion, another scarecrow issue since it almost always deals with cases of anencephaly, when there is NO BRAIN in a fetus, and your guys would make the poor woman bear and deliver such a monstrosity. in stark contrast to Planned Parenthood, > which simply tries to get > them abortions as quickly as possible. An utter lie, of the very kind that I talked about earlier. The fact that you can utter it with a straight face shows how far gone you are. > my Dad has > founded and organized an annual "Valentine's Hearts > Drive," which collects > thousands of dollars in baby clothes I honor such people. I am willing to discuss abortion sincerely with people who have adopted, or who have truly put their money where their mouth is. Just because I have a theory (Jesus Effect) about why the right settled on this one issue, that does not mean I dismiss it as a matter of sincere debate. But your typifying of MOST right wingers as devoted & sincere charity-givers is arrant deception. Stats show that liberals give far far far more money to charity than your fat cat selfish kleptos at the top of the GOP, who preach volunteerism as a fig leaf. ===== . . * Please note.
