Does anybody remember Neil Postman's excellent "Amusing Ourselves to Death" from the mid-80's (Amazon: <http://tinyurl.com/2uvuo>)?


Using "1984" and "Brave New World," he made pretty much the point above. No central agency of government control is needed to enslave the minds of the masses: just give 'em "American Idol," "Fear Factor" and Fox News (are the last even two different shows?), and they'll gladly enslave themselves, and pay for the privilege.

Now, excuse, me, the NBC Blockbuster Television Event "10.5" is on.
