The church is called to distance itself from sin but never keep sinners at a distance, in the words of Brennan Manning.


Unconditional love seems scary because it says I can do anything and still be loved. Can't have that, the fear says, it's license to misbehave... and there comes the temptation to take a self-righteous "stand" against this or that thing that I perceive as sin.

The Bible isn't a lesson on "how to be good," tempting though it is to treat it that way. It's about how to be real.
