Our cat Friday has been very sick lately. We took her to the vet on Wednesday and they found a large mass in her abdomen. They performed surgery this morning and found a large mass in her colon. It had spread to many other areas in her intestines. The vet felt it was not operable. We made the decision that it wasn't fair to Friday to wake her up after the surgery.
She was 16 and had a good long life. She'll be missed.
Friday, 1988 - 2004. RIP.
Sorry to hear about that. Losing a beloved animal can be quite a painful thing. And if you're anything like me, you have more *affection* for your pet, your companion, than you do for most people. It's a special relationship comparable to the poem below:
"Blood and Water"
"Blood," my mother said, "is thicker." Dulls sooner, clots quicker, Crusts over.
Water, said my heart, is sweeter, Sings clearer, leaps fleeter, Gives ever.
--Jay Macpherson--
*Affection being, the feeling of protective love that one has for an animal, while remaining sensible about those feelings in the face of Humanity.
-Travis "consolation below" Edmunds
"Moment"
The day she died
a redbreast hopped
through the open door
in stilled December,
inquiring near
with little confident bounce,
starting
my first tear.--Alastair Macdonald--
