The Caliphate was not a Global Superpower; they ruled over a small
part of the world, and they had major defeats to _minor_ powers in
both the eastern and western front.

But I would replace Spain by "The Habsburgs" - it was when Spain was
ruled by the Habsburg family that they achieved Global Dominance.

If we want to go back, I would replace Greece by Macedon, and
include Persia - even if those powers did not have any influence
in India or China.
