From the posts I've seen on this list, I'm guessing that not too many here hold with Harvard psychologist Steven Pinker, who rejects both what he calls the "naturalistic fallacy" (the belief that if something is natural, it must be good) and the "moralistic fallacy" (the belief that moral traits arise from nature).

Pinker asserts that human values do not arise from nature, but in /spite/ of nature. "Nature is what we are put here on this earth to rise above," he says, begging the question as to who or what "put" us here in the first place.
