Republican. Lincoln believed in the virtue of sticking to principles,
even when it wasn't expedient.


Very similar to the pro-life position of the Republican Party today (also
worth noting that the Republican Party is not actively seeking to force
liberation of unborn children on pro-choice States today as well - another
policy Lincoln would have approved of.)


Gutting the mothers like fish to preserve the rights of the 'unborn children' probably wouldn't get a lot of support...
