Actually, I think that play is the perfect example
(among many) of why most Washingtonians believe Gibbs
can walk on water.  Portis did really well there, but
what made it work was the elegantly-designed
deception, with three wide receivers on the right,
then faking as if the play was being run to the left. 
That, plus the play worked because James Thrash threw
a block to clear a running lane - again, a Gibbs
trademark, getting all of the players on a team to
contribute in the small ways as much as the big ones. 
It was a thing of beauty :-)

In all seriousness, ask yourself this:
Name another coach was has successfully won
championships in two _completely unrelated_ sports. 
Gibb's NFL record - particularly his playoff record,
when coaching is the real determining factor - in and
of itself means that he has to be part of any
conversation on "best coaches in NFL history".  But
leaving the NFL, going into NASCAR, where he knew
nothing and had no expertise...and winning again. 
That's almost unbelievable.
