If (and, much to my shock, it's looking increasingly likely, when) John Kerry loses in November, Dr. Brin, look in a mirror and you'll know the reason why. The South is part of the United States. Americans <> people who obey the Great and Powerful Brin. Dan gave one explanation for your politics. Let me suggest a more parsimonious one. You really, really don't like the South and Southerners and, well, anyone who disagrees with you, but that last part is neither here not there. The American people are pretty smart, and they don't respond well to being patronized. Those people in "NASCAR country" whom elitists like you sneer at? Well, disproportionately they are the ones who do stuff like fight our wars and police our cities. That is, while you sit in California and express your contempt for them, those NASCARites are off manning the borders of civilization giving you the freedom to do it. Their states, by the way, are growing economically while New York and Boston are losing jobs and people by the day. You might reject the "left-right continuum" but by God you'd fit in perfectly on the Upper East Side, with people who sneer at WalMart not because of its economic effects but because they just couldn't _imagine_ associating with the sort of people who shop there. ===== Gautam Mukunda [EMAIL PROTECTED] "Freedom is not free" http://www.mukunda.blogspot.com __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
