Note that this is very different from
"lifting the ban on stem cell research" - _every
single time_ Edwards or Kerry says that, they are
lying, and they know that they are lying. There is no
ban. But this is nothing more than simple demagoguery
on the part of two people who, quite obviously, will
say and do _anything_ to get re-elected. See Charles
Krauthammer's column in the Washington Post today.
He's a doctor. He's also paralyzed. You think he
might support this sort of research if he thought it
could get those kind of benefits in eight years? It
may not get them in 80.

I have no love of Edwards. Like most physicans I think his legal career was
vastly damaging to the way we practice medicine. I have many friends who are
torn about this election precisely because of Edwards. When talking heads make
their snide remarks about the undecided they fail to understand that many
thoughtful people find solme good and much bad about both tickets.

As to stem cell research. There is simply no question that Bush's policy is
hindering advances. I sit on many committees at my medical school and the
frustration and anger about what this policy cannot be adequately described. As
I may have said before, I think this is an important issue. It represents a
turning away from technologic advanced based on religous or philosophical
grounds. Forget the ethics and moral stuff. This is where medical advances will
occur and if we don'tg do it others will and they will reap the benefits
