A wash is when the good and the bad even out so, on average, the results
are neutral.  My opinion is that this is about the best we can hope for
now.  The downside, while not infinite, is tremendous.  The time we have to
work with is growing increasingly short.  I don't think our military
presense will be acceptable to the people of Iraq for very long after the
Jan. elections.  And, I think there is virtually no chance at stability
without our presence being extended for a good bit.
