I've heard the same thing. I haven't had any troubles with my Sony DRX-530UL, but I may have just gotten lucky (also, I haven't tried to go higher than 4x) One thing I was wondering about for a new purchaser was whether they might increase their chances by buying drive and media with the same brand, on the theory that HOPEFULLY the company would thoroughly test the drive and media, with their name on it, together. Of course, that may not be the case. Memorex makes a lot of media themselves, but I'm not sure who makes the Memorex DVD drives, and I don't know if they are thoroughly tested together. Ditto for TDK. Sony makes good drives, but it is hard to find Sony media (and I'm not sure who makes the Sony media). Ditto for LaCie. > It's a rather sorry state of affairs. Yup. Most of the drives are advertising 12x and 16x -R/+R these days, but I just browsed through the media and didn't see anything labeled higher than 8x. So I guess it is caveat emptor. -- Erik Reuter http://www.erikreuter.net/ _______________________________________________ http://www.mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l
