IIRC the Bible (specifically the Old Testament) was primarily a collection of histories, laws, and stories that originated from the *oral* traditions of the original Hebrew people. It wasn't written down until probably the period of the Babylonian Captivity. Furthermore, the development of what we would call "The Bible" today was through the efforts of scholars of the Late Roman period, using source documents originally translated into Greek from the original Hebrew.
