We saw the geneticist/metabolic specialist today.

Some of the blood tests she'd ordered when he was in the hospital still haven't come back. They should have been back a couple of weeks ago. She re-ordered those. Assuming that Tommy is feeling well enough on Friday (we *all* have a cold, including my visiting mother), I'll be taking him downtown to get more blood drawn. Sigh.

The one thing of concern that came back was an elevated lactase level, but that could have been caused by the circumstances surrounding the blood draw and not that he normally has an elevated lactase level. That's one of the tests to be repeated, and if it comes back normal, all is well, and if not, the doc will explain to us what it means when we go to see her next month.

So, nothing conclusive on the tests at this point. But a number of bad things have been ruled out, which is reassuring.

In other news, he's had a cold and spent a few days losing weight at about half the rate he'd been gaining it, but he's back on the upswing now, and we're hoping to keep him there. The worst part of *that* is that he's eating about once every 4 hours, and all of those feedings either end with or consist entirely of breastfeeding, and that's draining, in more than one way.

To top things off, Catherine's been in a bad mood most of the day. She had tubes put in her ears last month, and a lot of crap has drained from the middle ears into the outer ears, and I'm concerned that one of the tubes may have clogged up now. We're calling her pediatrician in the morning, to see if we need to bring her in or if we should just try using ear drops (and get a prescription for them called in, if prescription drops are necessary) or something and see if that clears things up. Just got her back in bed a little bit ago, having gotten her up after she'd been screaming in pain. I did what I could to get goop out without sticking anything in the ear canal (not much, but a bit) and let her nurse, and she went to bed in much better spirits. If she doesn't scream again in the next half-hour, I'll consider that success for the time being.

And now I think I need to get a little sleep before Tommy's midnight feeding....
