Actually, that might be a pretty interesting idea... that would be what,

say 180 trillion dollars ($180,000,000,000,000) that doesn't sound like
all that much, and think of the trickle down effect ! Inflation might be
an issue of course, but geez, there would be some pretty happy folks out
there, for some $30 would be pretty impressive.

It's not my social security policy, so it's a debate I have stayed out
of, but the way I read that article was not "Lets do nothing" but "This
is the Governments responsibility and they can't palm it off". And since
when has privatizing anything cut costs to the consumer. Yea, always
sounds great up front, but a few years down the track, there is always
some excuse, and by then there is no one to appeal to, cos the
government just throws its hands up and says sorry, not our business.

We have a system here that forces ones employer to put aside 9% of your
wages, and it is invested on your behalf, by any approved investment
dude you choose, or even by yourself. You can top it up with your own
dough if you like. And you know what, it's been great seeing all the new
Porches and Ferrari's that the investment guys are driving. Now that's
efficiency for you ! Funny how my fees keep going up though.

It's actually not a bad system, but it's a back up to pensions, and I
want my government to guarantee a basic living allowance to all
retiree's no matter what. And I don't care if the Government fucked it
up and underfunded it, they can get the money from elsewhere, cos I
don't want old people starving on the streets (well, any more than there
are now anyway). I don't think the method is all that important, it's
the principle. Is the proposed system over there anything like ours? A
sort of forced savings scheme, run by private industry?
