I'm not asking a rhetorical question. I've never figured out how, on one hand, better and worse are simply defined in terms of a given culture, and on the other some things are better or worse. If you want to talk about evolution, then, by definition, what survives is evolutionarily favored. If one were to look at the present situation from an evolutionary standpoint, the
question would be why Europe is failing, not why the US is backsliding.
I was thinking mostly in terms of the last four years or so, not really on an evolutionary time scale.
