Fool,
I want to thank you publically for a couple of your recent posts --
"Social Arthritis" and a reply to the Valtrex thread in which you
referred to Talk2Action. You and I have tussled from time to time on
this list, so I think it's only fair that I give you a tip of the hat
when it's due, and it certainly is now.
The first post gave me a framework for thinking about fundamentalism
that I've been lacking -- I differ very slightly from the author in
that I think fundamentalism *is* social arthritis: the disease
itself. All the angry tirades against religion that show up on Brin-L
and elsewhere are really tirades against the social arthritis of
fundamentalism. Christianity is deep in the grips of it right now and
it's pissing me off. I'm leading a 13-week class entitled "Living the
Questions" at my church starting this Sunday, which bills itself as
an "unapologetically liberal alternative to the Alpha Course". I'm
doing what I can, from within the liberal branch of Christianity, to
get the message out that we're not all right-wing bigots. (For those
interested, the course is described at http://
www.livingthequestions.com/.)
The second introduced me to Talk2Action, to which I signed up
immediately: it looks like it will be a great resource while I teach
this class and as a way too keep my eye on the progress of our disease.
That's basically it: thank you for your keen eye.
Dave
