I'm not at all sure that "Nip" is all that offensive, but I would 
defer to the opinion of those of us who are married to or are good 
friends with Japanese people or those of such descent.

Nip is short for Nipponese.
Brit is short for British.
So how is "Nip" different?
And how is "Nip" different from "Jap"?

The Japanese are looked upon quite favorably in the US, I don't see 
any evidence of prejudice and name-calling being part of the dynamic.
