I think that is entirely up to the citizenry. Perhaps sending e-mails
to ones elected representatives and expressing ones concerns rather
than listening to talk radio or reading political blogs would be one
place to start. I think the kind of political discussions such as the
ones we have here are also a healthy sign.

By not participating in the process of division. We here on this list
are quite lucky people. We get to discuss issues with others who
relate to us what the part of the elephant they perceive is like and
in our discussion come to gain some hazy idea of what the whole
elephant is like..
There is the choice.
We can argue about the elephant or we can create a synthesis of the
elephant.

As a general rule I think I tend to learn more about some subject from
people whose views are very different from mine. I may not come to
agree with them, but I benefit from greater understanding of a subject
by learning how it affects or is seen by those with differing views.

I'm riding an elephant and say "An elephant gives a bumpy ride"
A fellow under the elephant's feet replies "Bumpy you
say....................."

By the same token, in this election we lost Dewine (R-OH) who by all
reports was a pretty good Senator. Sending the message has already
incurred some cost.
