... we should be able to use technology to level living standards, and
improve the quality of life, instead of spreading conspicuous
consumption, waste and poillution to 'less developed' (sic) countries..
jon
... as Keith said, the people at the "Club of Rome"/"Limits to Growth"
meeting didn't want to hear that. They specifically are among the
elites in the environmental movement about whom I have been "ranting"
since 1975 and even earlier . . . ;).
... I think there technological fixes that can bring "less developed"
countries up to par with developed countries without the amount of
pollution and waste
... many of them need to be developed
... if humanity in general and the appropriate leaders
... set the goal of raising everyone up to equality without waste
... (by)sharing new technology
... rather than lookinf for way(s) to maximize profit (and) power over
their customers.
... it will take a shift in the mindset of many toward altruism rather
than selfishness, but that mindset shift is what we should be doing
anyway as "members of a civilization."
Idealistic List Conservative (And Yes Non-Evil Religion Contributes To
Making Me That Way) Maru
. . . ronn! :)
That will take a *lot* of technology, and it will need to be paid for.
I have trouble seeing this happen while also reducing/minimizing the
profit incentive.

it will take a paradigm shift from the mindset of avarice. since
capitalist governments are often controlled by corporate interests, i
don't see this happening until, and unless, economic collapse is
imminent. socialist governments, i might add, are not immune from
conflict of interest, and base motives of greed...
