Not entirely inconceivable, that. She doesn't have the somewhat negative name recognition that Lieberman or Huckabee have, which (at least temporarily) dodges some of the effects of choosing a fundamentalist running mate, so it's entirely possible that she was the only candidate he could choose who wouldn't immediately scare off more moderate voters, but at the same time wouldn't alienate a very large fund-raising base of hardcore fundamentalists whose support he really needs if he wants to have any real chance of winning the general election.
