It isn't malpractice on the physician's part as life
or limb is not in immediate danger, but s/he *is*
supposed to refer the patient to another doctor who
prescribes contraception. One of my conservative
Catholic classmates, who knew he would not prescribe
the Pill etc., went into Ophthamology so that he would
not have to face that very question (well, and I don't
think he was comfortable doing Gyn exams either); I of
course disagree with denying contraception unless
you've referred the patient to another doctor, but I
applaud his decision to choose a specialty in which he
would not have to compromise his own beliefs _or_ his
patient's rights.

I (hmm, and I think Kneem) posted an article last year
about a Bush appointee who not only won't prescribe
contraception for unmarried women, but co-authored a
book (with his wife) on women's health in which women
afflicted with PMS symptoms were directed to 'pray to
Jesus...' (Guess if she's Jewish or Hindu or Muslim,
she just gets to suffer.)

This administration's attitude towards women's health
issues is appalling. And dangerous. When I'm not so
bloody hacked off, I'll post about its dreadful
approach to AIDS prevention. Again.
