I was taken completely by surprise when Lyle gave me the prize, as I'd
forgotten that there was one. I wasn't expecting any material gain for
the winner, and such prizes are probably only sustainable as an annual
award. [Speaking of which, I was also surprised and pleased to get the
support award, but again, even more surprised that it came with a
physical trophy. It's sitting proudly on my desk now.]

Solving a real problem, but preferably one which is small and self-
contained. The Data::Dumper problem was good in that it was easy to
explain, and could be solved in a number of different ways, but a bit
more explanation of why the specified output would be useful may have
inspired a few more people to enter.
If the end result is a CPAN module, so much the better. I'll try to
knock my entry for the first competition into shape for a release.
