Maybe it's just poorly configured but I've found mediawiki pretty
painful at one of my clients, the default search misses most results,
the hierarchy stuff doesn't work very well at all, and uploading and
linking to images is pretty painful.

For a simple site like bath.pm, I'd say it was massive overkill for
little gain. Kwiki is quick and simple, and has enough plugins to do
most of what you need.
