I work for a company with 3 other programmers. We use dot project as a way of tracking how long projects are taking, the automatically generated gant charts are perfect for making things clear to the manglement. We also have a policy of giving an amount of time to create a quote in and then once the project is finished analising how and why the original quote was off (if it was)
