When providing an estimate, write down _what_ the estimate is for.  If
it's several things, estimate them separately.

Chances are the actual work will be something else.  Hardware doesn't
work, something obscure needing debugging, person who made the request
isn't the person who wants the work done...

Then you can justify the differences without looking (as) sloppy by
writing down the things you had to do differently.
