Steve and All,

Not one to usually defend Ultimate bureaucrats, but this has been
EXHAUSTIVELY discussed on britdisc, elections were very well publicised, and
you can't realistically expect any meaningful insurance for 25 a year.

I think the people that handled the transition did an admirable job
(especially as they are volunteers). I hope that the Ultimate community has
more realistic expectations for the UKU. I, for one, would be satisfied
with an up-to-date website and a newsletter for my 25 this year (keeping in
mind that we aren't paying tournament taxes anymore) and hopeful of better
things next year.

Subject: membership fees and other questions

To the UK Ultimate Association

I do not know if these have been asked / answered on Britdisc or anywhere
else, but now that you have collected around twenty thousand pounds in
membership fees, where is this money going?
What benefits am I getting this year as a fully paid-up member compared to
the last eight years? Medical insurance? etc

Am I correct in that the membership fees are required only for the tour and
the indoor/outdoor nationals - ie seven tournaments.
If there is any medical insurance for members (or any other membership
benefits), is it only for these seven tournaments?

If the fees are in part to be used for "Promotion of the Game" and to make
events more professional, why was there not a single advert in Bradford for
the National Indoor Championship Finals; no party for the evening; not even
a couple of bits of paper stuck on a wall somewhere to show rosters/results.

While we are talking professionalism here, is ukultimate.com the official
website for the Association?
If so, why where are there no details about the Tour venues for this year
(...and the indoor finals were shown as being in Leeds)

Apologies if I am missing the point here, but if this is an association -
i.e. a body of people with a common purpose - how do the members
needs/wants/requirements get debated/answered/resolved.
You could just say: "Use britdisc" - as that is where everything is debated
and questioned.
But if that is the case, why was something so fundamental as THE FORMATION
OF THE ASSOCIATION and all of the details surrounding this event not
discussed on Britdisc BEFORE the event.

I am now being told by people who I don't know to pay fees to an association
that I have no visibility into, no control over, and no opportunity to
debate about association goals, or vote for committee members... just to
play a game I have been happily playing for nine years.
What is the deal here? Am I missing something obvious??

Thanks. (and minor apologies for the almost-rant with little thought or
structure)
