I tried almost everything you propose I should have tried - I emailed Chris and Barry privately (but got no response). I was then very level-headed in the first email I sent to Britdisc. The ranting and stamping then became absolutely necessary in order to resolve the concerns - it was obvious not just to me that the UKUA/DoC were/was not taking the concerns of the 5 winter leagues which exist into sufficient account. I do not particularly like ranting or stomping, particularly don't like the attention it draws, and actually feel quite guilty sometimes - but the fact of the matter is something had to be done, and thankfully is now being done. > had I known of your concerns, I could (and can) move the event to > the next weekend to avoid a qualifiers/winter league clash. Why didn't you look in the UKUA Events calendar before you booked the event? Even if the events weren't in the calendar due to hold ups in the approval process - they were published by me on the 20th August to Britdisc and Eurodisc. When they are is a matter of public knowledge amongst a good proportion of UK Ultimate players - 1st weekend of the month Winter Leagues, 2nd weekend of the month GB - the benefit we will all get from this over subsequent years in terms of being able to plan weekends should be obvious. If you did know the BWL, LWL and MWL all had events scheduled for that day why on earth did you proceed? Even if you imagined enough players would turn up surely you realized that would inexorably damage all 3 of the Winter Leagues geographically around Oxford? Why did you not offer to move the date of the tournament immediately you became aware of our concerns? And most interestingly, given the content of your mail, why on earth did you send the email to Britdisc and not me personally? You go on about private communication being the more mature approach, and yet days after the whole matter has been laid to one side you still feel the need to have a piece of me in public on Britdisc, behaving in a manner you yourself condemn throughout your mail! Lol? I nearly rofled! Hopefully tournament directors will realize that over the winter they have the other 3 weekends a month to organize tournaments, and if they pick the 2nd weekend of any month they can virtually guarantee that no GB players will be there - making for quite an exciting weekend and chance to win a trophy for the rest! I would even go so far as recommending that the UKUA ban tournament directors from organizing tournaments on WL weekends unless they're beginner tournaments less likely to cause conflicts. You might say that isn't right, it should be a free market etc etc, but if such action is needed to curb less than considerate TDs then maybe we should consider it to help continue the growth in quality of our outdoor game. I don't despise indoors or anything, it has it's place - and that is on weekends not previously reserved in agreement with the UKUA since August! I'll leave the UKU to comment on the discussion over lack of bids for indoor qualifiers, etc but, as to the timing of the qualifiers - had I known of your concerns, I could (and can) move the event to the next weekend to avoid a qualifiers/winter league clash. As I said, you had some important points that are probably right to be aired, but when the whole ethos of the sport is about communication, that rests with each individual, not just the UKU board members.
