We should think about the long-term impact of SOG - the use of referees - and the impact on funding of our sport.
SOG of the game is a (the) defining aspect of Ultimate - so much so that we should fight hard to retain it - by defining it.
If want to secure long-term growth, sponsorship and awareness for our sport - we have to compete against the 101 other minority sports that have a dedicated following -
SOG is our baby - our hook to get funding and to make it different - all 'other sports' are fast, furious and exciting with a young player base etc - but no other (?) sport has SOG.
But we should define it - and unite players behind an agreed SOG. This should include line-callers - but a referee should never be the first port of call. We are adult enough to resolve most problems (except line-calls) - and play with a sporting honour that defines us as players. An agreed SOG will secure the sports long-term future.
Keep SOG - define it - agree it - play it - and go get the funding.
