Well not so much breaking as crumbling on old paper. This just in... (actually
in a suitcase that has been lying in my garage for 8 years)

>From the UK Frisbee Association Newsletter of Septemver 1978 a report on the
>Gold Spinner Frisbee Championships - 6th UK Nationals sponsored by Unigate as
>part of their promotion for Gold Spinner Cheese Spread.

These included individual events and Ultimate

"At the close of the two day event, Derek Robins from Northampton, a new face
on the Frisbee scene, emerged as Overall Individual Champion...." ahh happy
days!

"Steve Hurrel of the Ally Pally Tossers won the distance event with a UK record
throw of 295 feet 4 inches. Steve's record toss will be going into the Guiness
Book of Records"

and Ultimate ....

"Probably the most competitive event was the UKFA National Frisbee Competition
which this year saw 9 teams competing, including the champions, Cambridge
University Frisbee Association and two teams from Warwick University Frisbee
Club. In the first round Cambridge put out the Purley High Ultimate Frisbee
Team, whilst Ally Pally Tossers defeated the Waddon Weeds. The Warwick second
team beat the 1976 Champions the Bournmouth Frisbee All Stars, and first team
club-mates had a comfortable victory over the London based team, All Weather
Fliers who, earlier, had disposed of the Nab Wood Frisbee Club from Shipley in
West Yorkshire.

In the semi finals the Warwick seconds were no match for Cambridge, but the
Warwick first team proved a little too competitive for the Ally Pally Tossers
who retired from the game after 20 minutes with the scoreline at 6-1 to save
their energies for the individual events.

The final was what everyone had expected, Warwick versus Cambridge. This turned
out to be quite a match. It certainly caught the imagination of the crowd, who
by half time with the score at 4-4 were rising to their feet in response to
some fine Ultimate play by both teams. In the closing minutes Cambridge pulled
back from being 8-7 down to win the match by 10 goals to 8. How they did it I'd
like to know, I suppose that they were the better team on the day and that is
what counts."

There's also a report on a UKFA Touring Team trip to Italy sponsored by Camel
cigarettes, but that's all I have time for tonight.
