Please could someone forward this to the women's list

BD, UKU Women, Ultimate Ladies,

The weekend just gone saw the Damme Slamme take place in Nottingham. This was a
different type of tournament, a regular team tournament on the Saturday, and a
Hat on Sunday. Those that attended had a great time and learnt a great deal.

The results for the Regular tournament were.

1. Bliss
2. Sheffield Steal
3. FloorPlay 2 (Manchester)
4. Birds Aye (UEA)
5. Mushiono 1 (Nottingham)
6. FloorPlay 1
7. Haze (Loughborough)
8. Sublime 1 (Portsmouth)
9. Jedi (Leeds)
10. Bears (Warwick)
11. Strange Blue (Cambridge)
12. Fish (Lancaster)
13. Brunel (West London)
14. Picnic (Plymouth)
15. Mushiono 2
16. Sublime 2

I not sure anyone is interested in the results of the hat tournament but rest
assured that it was a fantastically competitive tournament. No bagels, which
was a pleasant change after the walk over fest of Saturday.

I'd like to thank all the people who helped out with the tournament, and Ali
Smith and Gemma Taylor for being our GB representatives.

INTERESTING FACTS

The point of this tournament was:
-to provide a platform for inexperienced players to meet and learn from more
experienced players.
-to provide more evenly balanced and open competition to all players.
-to bring the women's ultimate community together

It was put on with the support of the UKU women's committee.

At the UKUA conference the emphasis on the development of ultimate was enormous.

Both of the teams from the final (apart from a single bliss player) choose not
to attend the Hat part of the tournament. (Hannah Easter would have come but
busted her ankle)

Picnic (Plymouth) decided that they didn't want to attend either, obviously a
12 hour round trip for 90 minutes ultimate seemed like a good deal to them
(there's no accounting for insanity :-> )

In the end about 30% of the players from Saturday dropped out, and the schedule
had to be rewritten.

All the players that left had "really good reasons" however none of these
reasons would have been used if it had been a two day tournament.

I am personally gutted for the two teams from Brighton and Oxford that would
have loved to come for both days but were unable to due to lack of space.

NOW THE QUESTIONS

Are teams really prepared to fork out 90 for a one day indoor tournament? (it
would seem yes - Adam take note)

Given the constraints of the a two day indoor tournament are there any better
ways to achieve the goals mentioned above? (A conventional tournament doesn't)

To what extent did other fixtures keep people away from this tournament?
(Sunday morning practice is not another fixture)

Would a one day hat tournament be better attended than this one was?

Is a Hat tournament the way forward at all?

If players male/female really are committed to the development of the sport and
of younger players, is there a way would they prefer to show it. (genuine
answers only please, I'm not being inflammatory)

We would like to run a similar event at the start of the outdoor season, say
April. Would experienced players be more willing to attend this event?

You missed an opportunity to put something back into the sport that has given
you so much, and to have a great fun weekend while looking out to recruit stars
of the future. Should you feel guilty?

I'm no where near as p1ssed off as I might sound with the above questions, but
I genuinely want to help, I was lead to believe that there would be the support
to help out and I was let down. I wouldn't be doing justice to the players who
came to the tournament if I didn't express some disappointment.

Thanks for listening, and if you have some constructive comments I'm all ears.

Cheers
Tom Styles
