The "fact" that Steve stated seems pretty water tight to me.
Look at the number of teams playing this year's Tour,
T1 - Open 42, Womens 14, Mixed 36
T2 - Open 44, Womens 12, Mixed 35
T3 - Open 38, Womens 12, Mixed 33
It seems to me that although more mixed teams are going to Worlds, "Open &
Women's is still the primary focus for the vast majority of players in the
country". The vast majority of players aren't going to Worlds.
Obviously I am coming from the opposite direction - being a team that can
only successfully regularly put out a Mixed team with a large number of
student women, we greatly struggled this year, particularly due to Mixed
Tours all seemingly falling within the Student exams window.
We also struggled to get as many people as we would like to open tour due to
the events being so close together. Unlike myself, other members of my team
do have a life outside of Ultimate (I know, it seems strange to me too) and
like to spend weekends with their families over the summer.
From my point of view, the reversion to the old format suits us better as we
may miss one Mixed Tour due to all our women being in exams but would be
able to put out teams for all the other Tours as people will be able to take
Mixed Tour weekends off Ultimate (you simply don't need as many men in a
Mixed team and, this season, we have not had a womens team).
I will, of course, be filling out the online survey to express my view too.

BD,

Ummmm...the UK is sending 6 Mixed teams to worlds, 3 Open, and 2
Womens. I'm not sure how that fact translates into the "fact" that is
quoted below.

As the captain of a Mixed team that existed largely due to the split
season, I think there needs to be some sort of split, but perhaps an
overlap. Obviously, it's difficult to lengthen the season, but
perhaps a March start with some sort of Regional structure would be
the way forward for UK tours?
