Friends, Romans and Countrymen (not that Steve bloke, he's got the Canananadian lurkie),

I was not aware of the presence of incredidog, and therefore feel compelled to retract my claim that we could have been murdered in our beds. Only a fool would believe that they were at any risk. If I have offended incredidog, his family or fans of his work, I most sincerely apologise.

I'm aware of the research into drunkeness and it's socially benevolent sideaffects, but I was not aware that it had been so thoroughly accepted throughout the government sector. Since Steve's email I have of course done my homework (as I should have the first time), and I would like to offer apologies (again) for any offence caused. If anyone is interested, I point them to research articles such as those below for further reading:

- I. P. Knightly's treatise, "Drink Alcohol, Wet the Bed, Grow Cress, End World Hunger"
- I. C. Two O'Yas "Alcohol and it's wonderous effects on eyesight"
and of course who could forget (as I did), Piers D'offyourface's seminal work, "Alcohol: The Next Best Thing Since Sliced Kebabs?"

I'd like to rebuke Jennifer's claim that I should have warmed up and warmed down. Everyone knows that warming up and down is only something that professional athletes do in order to pose for the cameras. You think those buttock-clenching stretchs are really needed? Nor do I. Jeff Capes would be ashamed.

So to summise, I would like to offer my apologies to anyone who was offended by my outlandish claims, consider my tail (well, pathetically small penis) firmly between my legs.

Steve, I believe I owe you, Tom and Deno particularly heartfelt apologies. Consider my firstborn yours to share.

Dan

Dear Dan and BD,

On behalf of the organisers (to use the term generously) I would like
to address your concerns about the Copa Cabana (Where the Stars Come
Out) Tournament.

I'll first address your well thought points. Thank you for numbering
these Dan as it makes my counterpoints easier to follow.

1. First of all it was admittedly quite a lot of Ultimate. Most teams
had 12 games over the long weekend. I will defend this though in
saying that the quality of Ultimate was very low. I'd hesitate to
even say that some of it was even "Ultimate". I think pioneers of the
sport like Joel Silver would have been upset to have such a word
associated with some of the on pitch performances that weekend. Given
we charged a whopping £130 as well we did feel it necessary to give
players the appropriate amount of pitch time that would be expected
from such an outrageous fee. Lets take this past weekend for example.
£180 entry and some teams only got 3 games and one day of play and
many others only 4 games! Now Dan you might moan that this was not
enough Ultimate (blah blah blah). This was Nationals and as such the
best Ultimate the UK had to offer. To pay £60 per game is a bargain
to play at that level. That is why at the Copa, knowing in advance
the quality of play, we had to pack the schedule to get to same
perceived value for money. To make matters more complex, teams that
come to the Copa tend to have upwards of 25 to 30 members due to the
limited number of teams we can accommodate against the massive number
of people wanting to attend. If your team had less than 20 people I'm
sorry. Perhaps if you didn't complain so much you'd have a few more
friends. I think also you need to understand that the Ultimate
during the day is really just a stall tactic we setup to allow us time
to construct the Stage and the Sumo pit, cook a 75Kg pig for the
massive free dinner, clean up and restore and decorate the Copa Cabana
Marquee and the list is endless. We need that time to prepare each
evening. You are not required to actually play during that time but
it's a great way to make the day go by quickly while you wait for the
evening festival atmosphere to kick off.

2. Perhaps this is a cultural difference between Nottingham and the
rest of the World. The Nottingham City Council does in fact encourage
binge drinking as it keep the gun wielding gangs (typically 'jazzed'
on crack) at bay. Since the council's recent 'Get Drunk!' campaign
gun violence and "tent death" have dropped significantly. As for
partying until 8:30am, when did these people begin partying? If they
started at 1am this seems reasonable. Some people started partying at
8:30am, partied for 13 1/2 hours and went to bed at 10pm! Is this
then acceptable? Outside of putting a punch clock on the door of the
Copa tent....hmmm....right anyways, we can't be everyone's mommy but
do try our best to be the "Daddy". Either way at 8:30am the
organisers (again using the term loosely) were too busy serving
breakfast, and restoring the highly visible Lookfly port-a-fields in
preparation a too much Ultimate to be monitoring individual party
performance. As for your comment about Bovril we'll take that on
board for next year. At the very least we'll try to get Bisto to
attend.

3. See comment above about the Nottingham City Council "Get Drunk!" campaign.

4. Regarding this we were as disappointed as you that the game
featuring the closest matching team kit was the naked game at midnight
under the lights. Perhaps next year making the Copa an all nude event
is the only option.

5. Hey don't do that Dan...we love your moaning. We love even more
our good friend Jen from Mental Discs who's counter-moaned your
moaning. Although her reply does address the issues we the organisers
(ok I'm really pushing it now) thought it best to reply directly,
openly and approachably as TDs have reliably done to address all
complaints throughout the 2006 season. And yes...taking Ultimate
seriously is what we're all about at Flyght Club, surely that goes
without argument.

6. Actually there were 4 dogs there at the weekend and given the fact
the one of the attending dogs was actually incredi-dog we felt that
allergic reactions were a small price to pay for the warm fuzzy
feeling of protection brought to the event by the attendance of such a
celebrity dog with super powers.

So in closing I hope all those who did attend the Copa Cabana 2006
tournament had a great time in spite of all of the obvious problems
with the event. As usual the planning for next years event is already
underway so more public moaning is encouraged to help us bring the
Copa ever closer to the elusive 'perfect tournament'. If you have any
complaints, praise or suggestions for 2007 there is a forum on the
website for such things (although I suggest going public on BD with
complaints).
