Hi All

Again - apologies to people receiving this update more than once. We
continue to have some problems in getting these updates to everyone,
although hopefully some changes this month will increase our success rate.

In the meantime - I'll continue sending them to Britdisc aswell - please see
below.

The updates are also on the website:

Did anyone else think not going to Perth was a good idea six months ago only
to realise this week that they made a dreadful mistake? :-0

1. GO FORTH AND CONQUER

Around 200 years ago significant numbers of convicts, most of whom were poor
and illiterate, were dispatched to Australia only to come back later and
give us sound thrashings at cricket, rugby (both codes), swimming and even
the occasional beatings in the national institutions of football, indoor
bowls and darts.

However, we've managed to regain the Ashes and win the rugby world cup in
their own back yard. So it is with some confidence that we dispatch the next
group of poor and illiterate souls to take on the Aussies (and the rest of
the world) in the World Ultimate Club Championships 2006. Good luck to:

2. EUCF 2006

Taking on the best in Europe was always going to be a great warm up for the
Aussie adventure so it was with great intent and expectation that the
British clubs flew to Florence for the inaugural EUCF 2006.

Proving that they've lost nothing after missing European Clubs last time
round the Borg (Skogshyddan) put one over on Clapham in the Open final
taking the title 15-11. Fusion finished a creditable 6th whilst Fire rather
failed to ignite managing, by their standards, a rather lowly 10th place.
Brighton brought up the rear in 16th on their first major foreign outing.

In the Women's division LeedsLeedsLeeds fought to an impressive 5th but
could not match the exploits of Bliss and Iceni who made it an all British
final. After a suitably titanic battle Iceni eventaully triumphed 15-13.

4. WCBU 2007

As if you haven't had enough acronyms for one update......anyway.....If
you're into sun, sea, sand, sangria and a bit of Ultimate thrown in for good
measure then you might be interested in the 2007 World Championships of
Beach Ultimate which will take place in Maceio, Brazil from the 11th to 16th
Dec 2007.

If you are interested in representing the UK then keep your eyes peeled for
updates as the UKUA will be confirming the selection process in the near
future.

5. NATIONAL JUNIOR WOMEN'S

This month saw the first ever national tournament for junior women. At one
stage it looked as though 11 teams may compete, but 5 teams was a good
starting point for this tournament which will hopefully expand and run
annually. With most players having only started playing Ultimate in the last
couple of months, the standard of Ultimate was surprisingly high. In the
round robin stage, Ocelots 2 lost all their games but most by just a single
point. At the top was a three way tie between Deva (Chester), Ocelots 1
(Malpas) and Catch Those (Wallasey). Ocelots and Catch Those had the better
goal difference and met once again in the final. Catch Those ran out 10-6
winners showing that 6th form netballers who only started playing Ultimate 2
weeks ago were better on the day than the more experienced but much younger
Ocelots. The spirit vote was also a 3 way tie between Arthur Terry, Ocelots
2 and Deva with Ocelots 2 just getting the nod, possibly for having so many
11 year olds in the team.

With so many players eligible for GB Girls next summer and virtually all the
others eligible for GB Junior Women, the standard of junior women's ultimate
is set to rocket.

Final Placings
1 Catch Those (Wallasey)
2 Ocelots 1 (Malpas)
3 Deva (Chester)
4 Arthur Terry (Sutton Coldfield)
5 Ocelots 2 (Malpas)

Spirit of the Game - Ocelots 2

Many thanks to all the volunteers involved the fantastic, ongoing progress
in Junior Ultimate!

6. GB CAPTAINS: Mixed and Masters

Further to last month's request for applicants to lead the GB teams we have
not yet received any for either the Mixed or Masters squads. If you are
thinking about it - please let us know ( <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
[EMAIL PROTECTED]). If you are hoping to play and not be captain, you'd
better start working out who you are going to talk into stepping forward!

7. GB 2007/8 - Logo Design

We need to start working on GB Kit for 2007/8. If you would like to be
involved in the kit design - and in particular design of the logo - then
please contact <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> [EMAIL PROTECTED] to indicate
your interest by the end of November.

8. REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND LADDER LEAGUES

For many players the ability to play ultimate locally more regularly is
really important - and so here's another reminder about the progress that is
being made in this area.

The Ladder Leagues are gaining more teams - and more games are being played
all the time. For more information see the website:

10. UKUA Conference and Board Elections - early warning

Its getting around to that time of year again! Given that WUCC takes up a
big chunk of November (and December for some people I suspect) it was
decided that we would shift both the conference and the Elections into
January. Please look out for more information on both topics over the next
month.
