If you can host this tournament on another date, check the calendar at
http://www.seultimate.org/ and send your bid in. 10/11th March isn't
a bad one.

Below is the December Ladder League Update which was posted on
www.regionalultimate.co.uk in the absence of BD. Exciting news about
the future of the LL coming soon in the Jan update!
Don't forget to check out the ladders to see all the recent developments...

Just a shortish update this month. The Winter Leagues across the
country have been driving teams forward on the tables, meaning big
guns such as Clapham, Fire and EMO are bounding up the table, and
there are rumours that the Irish Winter League results will be added
shortly too. No change at the top with the Flaming Galahs still
sitting pretty, but no doubt the next few Winter Leagues in
combination with all of January's planned LL events will put severeal
teams in contention for the top spot.

20th/21st January is National Ladder League Weekend. If you've been
on the brink of organising an event in your region, now is the time!
This intiative has caused a flurry of activity, and at the time of
writing we currently have six Ladder League events scheduled for
January [but 5 of them have been played already]:

Oxford, 27th Jan: Statto - @googlemail.com - ow.statto

Full details of these events are now in the Events Calendar on the
website. We've just got this function working properly, so make sure
you submit your event there when you announce it!
What I'd like to focus on in this update is the regional mailing
lists. We've all heard about them through the UKUA Member Update, but
unless we subscribe to them and make use of them then there'll be gap
in information exchange which will hinder our speedy development of UK
Ultimate. The lists are also great for productive discussions about
what direction your region should be headed in order to improve - in
fact, the whole Ladder League idea was started after a few ideas were
put forward on a regional mailing list for discussion, which soon
resulted in the system we see today being suggested, agreed upon, and
put into effect (in the South East University scene, two years ago).
So, use your regional lists! Increased communication (without having
to email the whole of the country) will bring us forward in leaps and
bounds, so don't be shy to just put your ideas out onto the regional
lists.

Current number of subscribers to each regional mailing list (@yahoogroups.com):

pookas (Ireland): 232
midlandfrisbee: 130
seultimate: 50
scotdisc: 46
northernultimate: 24
westernultimate: 15

Though it should be noted that the midlands & irish mailing lists were
established long before the others (as was scotdisc, but that had an
extended period of inactivity so effectively temporarily died).

It's very exciting to see so many events scheduled for January. One
thing I will say, is that if you organise an event, don't be
discouraged if only one or two other teams show up - you're still
giving a huge boost to your region as the effects will resonate with
every player that attended that day. When planning, be prepared to go
ahead with just one or two teams attending, but set yourself a maximum
number of entrants and stick to it. The biggest Ladder League event
ever was held at Brunel University last year, and saw 8 teams
competing in what felt like a mini version of Regionals. No entry
fee, no showers, just 8 teams, 4 fields, a bunch of cones and some
frisbees. But probably the most influential event was pre-Ladder
League, a friendly between Mohawks and OW!, which made me wonder why
we don't do that more often...

Hey all,

No bids have been received to host CWIN on 3rd/4th March, so the
deadline is extended & the next bid deemed to be suitable will be
accepted & announced.

Please see below for info needed in bids. Note that this tournament
clashes with GB Women's trials #3, Open trials #1, & Club Open Indoor
Nationals (which is also in need of bids to host).
