Just to get my apologies in early...

Two different teams have turned up to Nationals with ineligible players. This can only mean that I didn't make the rules clear.

There aren't any complicated rostering rules - all that applies is the common-sense principle that you can't represent two different teams in the same competition. This applies across almost all sports, including football cup competitions and such - the only exceptions being long-winded league campaigns.

To me, this much is obvious - if your team fails to qualify, you can't join another team and go to nationals. However, I accept full responsibility for not making it crystal clear before the tournament.

I did receive a request from a team before the tournament to pick up an ineligible player, which I refused. Therefore when I found out that ineligible players were actually playing, I had no choice but to ask them to forfeit their matches. I struggle to understand why someone, knowing they had represented another team at regionals, wouldn't at least ask permission to play for a team at Nationals.

After all the trouble with Nationals that wasn't my fault (clashes with other tournaments) I'm particularly annoyed that I've made a mistake now. It's a real shame that, mainly due to teams pulling out (because of both Midland student regionals and GB training), nationals appears to be an unimportant tournament. Some of the qualifier tournaments were oversubscribed, and I still believe there is an appetite for an national indoor competition. Hopefully, with the schedule already being written for next year, we can get it right.

Mea culpa,

Benji
