Hey BD,
After playing Ultimate in the UK for 8 years I feel it is time to make my first
ever post to BD.
It is clear that many people are unhappy with Tour and how in their opinion it
favours certain teams/groups of people. However there are others who place a
great deal of value in these events.
I am the current captain of Boogie Knights/Liverpool Ultimate, we are a
developing club whose main ambition is to compete at the highest level
possible. As captain of this Club, I feel it is important to say why we value
Tour so much.
Tour helps us improve in the following ways:
It provides us with the opportunity to play against 'better' teams from
outside our region;
It allows us to measure our progress, as we know where we are ranked after
each event;
It provides us with an opportunity to watch and learn from the 'top' teams;
People make Tour events a priority and this allows us to select the best
possible squad.
I understand that people like to have a good old moan now and again, and I'd be
telling lies if I said I didn't curse the UKUA as I stood freezing my nuts off
under icy cold showers, but people do love the Tours. I know that when
September rolls around and we are driving back from Nationals there is a sense
of sadness that we will have to wait 8/9 months till the next Tour event.
I know that we would sadly miss these events if they were gone, perhaps one
thing I wouldn't miss is my jam packed Inbox. Although I am sure people would
still find something to bitch about.
