Another bright and sunny day in Southampton, spoiled only momentarily
by a brief rain shower. The GB teams march on, and with the 7 out of 7
still on the cards it's understandable that the newsletter received
some criticism that it was quite GB orientated, yep, sorry about that.
So I was under strict editorial instructions to get some non-GB pics
this morning. Luckily for me the Latvia women vs Russia women game
proved quite a spectacle, with Latvia pulling it out of the bag at the
death. This end of the week does throw up some very close games.

Women
The Women kicked off with a comprehensive 17-8 defeat of the Italians.
And finished the day with another against the Danes, the second was
closer than the first but they look in really good shape and its going
to take a top performance or a huge choke to stop them retaining the
title. They are through to the semis.

Mixed
The mixed team got off to a rough start, and were at the wrong end of
3-1 before they showed up and demolished the Italians. The Italians
only managed 1 more point the whole game as GB ran out 17-4 winners.
Later on they secured their place in the final with a comfortable win
over Germany. Anna Wilkes taking down a big disc to change the
momentum in GB's favour at the end of the game. GB are joined in the
final by the Czech Republic, who have already beaten GB this week. The
mixed squad members I spoke to said this was a positive thing as it
made them focus and work hard from the off.

Open
Only played one game, and what a game. The complete annihilation of
the French, not a bad team in their own right but they had nothing
against the quick scoring O line and the impenetrable Zone D. Keith
Hodgson ticked all the boxes with an outstanding individual
performance. A greatest, caught on the edge of the zone by Britney for
the 2 yard assist, A block-assist while playing in the cup, and
finally a double handed layout Callaghan which sent the sideline wild,
all in the space of 5 points. 17-5 the final score.

Masters
The old fellas done good with a solid win over the French. The game
was brilliantly spirited all the way through apart from a very odd
foul call on Harvey in the end, (see my photos in a couple of weeks).
Big performance from Lars Patel, who flew at everything near him. They
are through to the final.

Didn't get chance to see what was happening in the other divisions but
I hear good things.

Cheers for now
