To everyone that has been complaining about the EUC website.
I was a member of staff at EUC and I thought i had better stand up for
the masses of work that the organisers did for the tournament. We were
critically understaffed in all areas, due to a mass dropout of people
with less than a week to go. The website was a critical part of our
scoring system, with facilities to update game data live (which didn't
happen due to the number of staff), and the theorised team was going to
be 4 or 5 people working soley on the website. We had 2. These staff
were responsible for maintaing the scoring system, which needed
adjusting to speed up the scoring process (as we were collecting data on
paper and almost spending a full match length afterwards entering it
into the system). The news team, who were producing a 4 page newsletter
daily, was only one person. Russ you did an Awseome job, and everyone
there appreciated your effort!!
I commend the website team, who throughout the week worked 13/14 hour
shifts trying to keep on top of an ever mounting pile of updates. They
did not see ANY of the ultimate, and were in the dark media room before
most players had even arrived at the fields and left after the players
had gone home.
Results from the first day of finals were being entered in the evening
as all of the scoring staff were scoring 3 or 4 games throughout the day
and only got chance to enter the data from about 5pm whilst the mixed
finals were taking place on the show pitch. So to validate all the data
from about 40 games, to make sure that what you saw online was correct
data, only being able to start this job at 6pm, it is no wonder that the
data wasn't completly live at 10pm.
*To every member of staff at the EUC tournament,
THANK YOU. I am still relatively new to the ultimate community, and
working with you has been the highlight of my year. You all worked so
hard and made the tourmanent what it was; AMAZING!*
Yours,
Olly Croft - Team J
