I think it's even simpler than this. You obviously have space in your bag to take stuff pitch side in the first place so unless you've bought loads of other stuff in the meantime there should be space in your bag to take it away with you at the end of the day. At Mansfield there are a few bins dotted around the park so in my opinion there should be no excuse for littering. This is something thats been bugging me for a while and I think its time I expressed my concern. Our sport differentiates itself from many others for the principles of respect and fair play it is based on, no doubt something we are all proud off. I am also confident in saying that in the past for most Ultimate players these principles transcended beyond the confines of the sidelines, call me a hippy but I believe that I am a better person for playing Ultimate. Unfortunately I believe this is becoming less the case. I couldnt believe my ears this weekend when I heard somebody heckling abusive name calling from the sideline aimed at a member of the opposing team. This was simply rude and offensive, the kind of behaviour you would expect at football match, not at an Ultimate tournament. Another example, while on the subject of litter, was Copa last year. Ive never been to a festival but if I ever did Id expect it to look somewhat like the bombshell left behind on the campsite when all had left. Who the hell brought an old TV with them?! My question is what has changed? Is it the perception of what spirit is? Are we not stressing its importance enough when indoctrinating new players or is it simply the sport is attracting a different type of person. Over to you ..
