Well that's just it Benji. Everyone who enters the tournament pays for it, so they can expect a service for their money. If the problem is that the people who do the work aren't paid for it, then I suggest you talk to the TDs. They are the ones with the money who are being provided a service, maybe they should pay for it and be a little more accountable. I'm sure Felix could do with some money for a beer - or a haircut :-p Brummie ------------------------------ Re: [BD] Mixed Nationals Schedule UKU Director of Competitions Sun, 17 May 2009 03:15:53 -0700 We have a choice between putting a schedule out early and then changing it, or leaving it until late. It is by no means unusual to find teams dropping out at the last minute, and we're aware (as usual) of at least a couple of teams struggling for women at Mixed Nats. It would be far worse to give you a start time and then change it than to leave it late, surely. You can always assume that if you're ready to play at 9am saturday you can't go far wrong. And nothing will go beyond 6pm on the sunday (except perhaps the final, but even that is VERY unlikely). The info will be out as soon as we're confident that it won't change. And what's more, even if we weren't /forced/ to wait until the last minute, there are no grounds for complaint about the work that our VOLUNTEERS, particularly Felix but also a number of others, put into this. If we struggle to find the many hours that are needed to put a schedule together, due to work commitments or other stuff, then it gets delayed. That, I'm afraid, is not going to change. The schedules we have now are vastly better thought through and checked than they were 2 or 3 years ago, and I genuinely think that the people who turn up and play in these tournaments should be extremely grateful for the unpaid and unthanked work that goes into them. A good result for the scheduling committee is when we receive no complaints . . . What do people think the schedule is worth to them? How much do you think your enjoyment of the weekend is enhanced by the fact that some poor sod has slaved over this stuff? 20p per player? 50p per player? More, I'd say. Seriously - buy Felix a beer.
