A quick comment on this last point. The competitions committee has been looking at the purpose of the various UKU competitions that we have right now. We've started with the outdoor senior events because they are the most contentious, and in particular dealt with Open and to some extent Women and Mixed divisions. We will be working our way across all the competitions over the coming months. I updated the website with these goals last night (link below). Its relevant because we believe the Tour should be a lot about development (of ultimate-playing ability and tournament quality). If you look, you'll see the intention is to continue to focus on the use of peer pools as a key way of maximising the number of close games. Finding a winner of the Tour is not mentioned as being any more important than providing all teams with a "ranking" (as opposed to Nationals). All that doesn't mean the spread of peer pools can never change. We don't want the relatively high level statements about competition objectives to get anywhere near the details of whether to use super-peer-pools or not in the Women division events. Of course there is also a balance to be met about giving teams the chance to play opposition that is significantly stronger and we endeavour to make sure that there are opportunities for that sort of game a couple of times a year - not all of these opportunities will be in the Tour. Anyway - if you're interested, please take a look... http://www.ukultimate.com/club_ultimate/uku_competition_structure There is also some more detailed info about plans for 2010: http://www.ukultimate.com/club_ultimate/uku_competition_structure/competitio n_structure_2010 I've got another article nearly done that hopefully explains some of the thinking behind all this. I'd better get that finished pretty quickly I guess. We've settled on a workable calendar - I hope to get that published tonight. (Might be tomorrow...) Info about how to bid to run events will follow shortly afterwards - to be followed by updated standards requirements for TDs. I'm hopeful that we will settle on 2011 dates soon as well. Si, UK Ultimate Ps - UKU is running XEUCF - can you help? - we still need more volunteers to help on Thursday and Friday - if you think you can help on one or both of those days please let us know - we are in good shape for Sat + Sun although to some extent the more the merrier - we need to save on some of the costs and are looking to get some stuff for free-ish.... 1. we need camping chairs (or similar) for volunteers to sit on whilst scoring games... Do you have 25 of them in your garage for some bizarre reason? 2. we'd like to get four office partition screens to make a tourney-office in the marquee - is the business next door to yours closing down and throwing some out? 3. we need a few clothes racks for the merchandise shop - do you know someone that might lend us a few? __________________________________________________ BritDisc mailing list [email protected] http://www.fysh.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/britdisc Staying informed - http://www.ukultimate.com/staying-informed
