Dear BD / UKU rules gurus
I'd just like to clarify the tournament rules on end of games (and cap), as
last tour there was some confusion between teams we played:
For MT3, as with the others, the schedule says:
"70 minutes, game to 13, win by 2, hard cap 15, 2 min half at 7"
"Games always finish if one team reaches the hard cap, regardless of whether
there is a two point margin."
"The hooter causes the hard cap to be reduced to two above the highest score
at the end of that point."
The question has come when a team has 12, after the hooter goes (e.g. score
is 11-8 during the hooter. Finish the point leads to a score of 12-8).
My understanding is: The HARD CAP would be reduced to 14 in this case.
However, the 'game to 13 win by two' rule still applies. So if the score is
12-8 after the hooter, the team can still win 13-8 (or 13-9, etc). As long
as they win by 2. You only play to the hard cap in this case it gets to a 1
point game. I.e. if the trailing team level's the score at 12-12, then you
play to 14.
Similarly, if the hooter goes during a point where the score is 12-x (x
being a number less than 12), and the team with 12 scores that point -
making the score 13-x after the hooter - the game ends as the team has won
by 2. You don't then play to 15.
Is this correct?
Thanks, and see you all in Cheltenham
-Justin
