Gidday BD/UU,

Strange Blue and Cambridge Ultimate hosted University Mixed Outdoor Nationals this past weekend. Having spent most of the working week trying not to freak out about potential thunderstorms on Sunday, I'm happy to say that we merely had intense, freezing rain showers instead, followed by a seriously late bout of sun (the last round of matches on Sunday; be glad for small miracles, I guess).

We had a great standard of ultimate throughout the weekend, with the cup final going to sudden death - tres exciting.

Results (average spirit scores in brackets):

1. Southampton [UMON 2012 Champions] (12.7)
2. Loughborough (12.3)

Congrats to Skunks, Strange Blue, Bath and DUF for taking away the silverware.

It was fantastic that we had a 100% return record for spirit results (after a little encouragement) with Oxford and Aberdeen sharing the prize for most spirited. UMON buffs, courtesy of Scimitar, will be sent out to both teams.

(We will also have a small number of UMON buffs for sale, please drop me an email if you'd be interested.)

A longest pull competition was also held over the weekend with Tom from Ro Sham and Annie from St Andrews winning the prizes of a disc/UMON buff each.

A lost property list is here for your perusal: http://strangeblue.wordpress.com/2012/03/20/umon-2012-lost-property/

We'll be donating anything unclaimed in a fortnight.

We're also trying to collect photo galleries from the weekend, which we'll update here: http://strangeblue.wordpress.com/2012/03/20/umon-2012-photos/

I'd like to thank our TDs for the weekend, Rich and Nat, and all the various helpers we had who came and wore hi-vis vests and filled up water bottles and sold isotonic drinks and played pickup and the like.

Big thank yous (for this weekend and for Regionals last weekend also) to UKU for their help and advice: Si Hill, Edd, Hayley and Steph. I've never had so much fun having last minute email conversations about the merits of 31 vs 32-team schedules.

And now I shall go lie down. Finally, thanks to all the teams who came from all over the country (I impressed some spectators with the news that a team from Aberdeen had made the trip) to make the tournament such a success.

Chur,

- Mike
Strange Blue President 2011-12
